I'm sure that you would do better with the EVO if you are going to look at the value perspective of this drive. Overall Review: I would definitely buy this drive again, only because I'm a hardware snob. There has been trouble with producing things on Samsung's part, flash memory in particular, and that is something that was unavoidable. I am glad I've waited to jump into the M.2 world until now, as I didn't have anything invested in the older drives, and any improvement over this drive wouldn't be noticed for most of us, anyway.Ĭons: There are no real "cons" that I can see as of yet, except for the timing of the delivery of the product. That is if you get it like I did, for $329 in the 512 flavor.

It is so close to the 950 Pro that it is a no brainer to get this over it's predecessor. The main "Pro" of this drive is it's price.
Newegg isn't as bad as some other sites, but there are so many detractors chiming in to express disappointment when it's clearly not the drive itself's fault. It is operator error most if not all of the time. This does nothing to help the customer, it only makes a truly superior drive look like it has problems. People need to stop "reviewing" this drive based on the troubles they have found and/or the delivery issues they have experienced. My guess is that this drive is queuing a lot of RAM very quickly in order for the machine to keep up with the demands of this speedy drive. I can't prove this, as I haven't upgraded yet, but I intend to do it soon. I'm sure that you will see a need to have a LOT of RAM with this drive to work the best it can. What I'm seeing is the need to get more RAM now, as thumbnails are filling up way faster than before in Windows explorer. As others have said, it isn't the same "upgrade experience" as going from a HDD to SSD, but it will be seen in certain operations, so don't expect this drive to "rock your world" the way your earlier experience was. I am getting great results and am very pleased with this drive.

I installed with the default Microsoft drivers and upgraded right after. I am using an Asrock X99 Extreme 6 with the latest bios, and it installed without a hiccup. I'm just relating my experience and describing the results, of course everyone's system is different and YMMV. I got great benchmarks when cloning, but nowhere near the ones after I bellied up and reinstalled Windows. Sure, it clones fine, but I don't see the speed benefits. I have tried multiple times to clone the OS, and it just doesn't work "correctly". 2.1) available that you can get from Samsung. If you just use the Samsung Migration software, even coming from a SATA SSD, such as a Samsung 850 Pro (in my case), you will not get the required results IME.

Pros: If you do a fresh install of Windows (in my case), the benchmarks will fall into place. Once you have Windows up and running, shutdown the PC and reconnect your other SATA drives.
